Dude, I had imposter syndrome when I was promoted to blue, and I had actually put in the mat time… BJJ is an art where you’re afraid to get promoted because you have to back it up on the mats every day :). So crazy someone would do that

Being in Jiu Jitsu my entire life, I have called out dozens of fakes but nothing like the way Ruben has done it. Mostly students saying they know more then they actually do. I started Jiu Jitsu when I was 23 and I am 51 and I must have came across at least 3 dozen fakes. I never approached them. I never felt like I needed to do it because it isn’t like the fake military guys calling out fakes because their buddies died in the uniform and that I get. With BJJ nobody ever died in our gi’s so I don’t give a crap if they are playing make believe as long as they are not trying to teach my students I am fine. Once they cross the threshold of trying to teach, then I put a stop to it. I pull the person aside and tell them listen, you are not a Black belt and you are going to hurt the students by trying to teach them and usually they just leave and never come back. No need for me to spend so much energy making them look stupid because they have already done that in the eyes of everyone there. I just don’t know why everyone is taking this so offensive when a crazy guy plays make believe. As long as he isn’t interfering with me or my students, I don’t give a crap. As far as locking the door and beating someone up, in these days, they will call the cops and they will press charges and you go to jail. It’s that simple. Maybe back in the day you can get away with that. Now, you go to jail by just locking the door. They will charge you with kidnapping. It’s insane. So whatever you do, don’t attack someone unless they touch you. It;s that simple.

Can a older person take Jiu Jitsu at 63? interesting video and this happens in all of the Martial Arts sadly. Even after 25 years of being out of Karate I still know the basics and footwork, so amazing he did this without even knowing the basics.

No way dude. Professor Alvarez was 100% right! I defiantly think you were very respectful to BJJ. It had to be done. Dude under our (4) striped Black Belt he does not promote to black belt for at least 12 years. One of our most talented Newly minted Black Belts got his in just over 13 years. He trains 20+ hours per week, for the last 7 or 8 years. I am a (3) striped Blue Belt. I got my A$$ kick for the last 2 years. Hey my First instructor was a BJJ Blue Belt in 1999. He opened his gym in 1996 training Kickboxing, and some Filipino marital arts. Particularly stick fighting, and knife defense. He had a dude show up shortly after opening his doors telling him he needed to leave and there was not enough room in the town for him to teach his marital art. The guy Challenged him. My instructor said, ok if I win you leave and never bother me again. If you win I will pack my stuff, move out, and shut my doors. He continued to tell him one exception, my gym my fighting rules. He then through the guy a knife and told him we are handling this the old Filipino way. The guy gave it a thought and walked out. Never bothered him again.
